About MIFF

The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is an iconic Melbourne event. Hosting a feast of cinematic delights for 17 days each winter, augmented by a range of parties and special events that cast a celebratory mood over the city, the festival is one of Melbourne's most significant public events.

MIFF celebrated 60 years in 2011, making it one of the oldest film festivals in the world. Since it began in 1952 it has developed into Australia's biggest film event and, in addition to screening films from around 50 countries, it has the largest program of any film festival in the nation, is Australia's largest showcase of new Australian cinema and is the country’s most vocal champion of emerging and established local filmmaking talent.

In 2011 MIFF delivered more than $7.6 milion into the local economy*.
