Next Gen Bookings for School Groups
MIFF established the Next Gen program in 2007 to enrich the cinema experience for younger viewers, and to stimulate discussion and social awareness. The films in 2014 offer movie lovers of all ages the chance to see intelligent, entertaining and diverse films from around the world.
Eight films have been programmed and scheduled with school screenings in mind, and bookings from schools are open now; study guides are available for all of these films. General public bookings for Next Gen screenings will open on Friday 11 July 2014.
MIFF 2014 Centrepiece Gala
The MIFF Premiere Fund co-financed film Cut Snake is 2014’s MIFF Centrepiece Gala event on Saturday 9 August.
Cut Snake is a sexy crime drama set in mid-70s suburban Australia from Matchbox Pictures’ Tony Ayres and is produced by Trevor Blainey (Noise) and Michael McMahon (Home Song Stories, Lou, The Slap). Cut Snake stars Alex Russell, Jessica De Gouw and Sullivan Stapleton. Introduced in 2012, Centrepiece Gala is a celebration both of local filmmaking and of the festival’s halfway point; it is a red-carpet occasion comprising a world premiere screening and an official afterparty, all at Hoyts Melbourne Central on Saturday 9 August 2014.
