Dervishes of Kurdistan

Iran, 2004 (MIFF 2004, Abbas Kiarostami Recommends Programme 2)

Director: Abbas Tahvildar

.Dervishes of Kurdistan (Kasnazan)

In Kurdistan, the Qaderi dervishes are very active in all aspects of people's lives, extolling the virtues of love, compassion, sympathy, abstinence, and encouraging them to help one another.Tracing their dynasty back to the 11th century AD, the lives of these mystics are examined in this illuminating documentary, including extraordinary scenes of the dervishes in almost frenzied, trance-like states, incorporating extreme scenes of bodypiercing.
