HOTTEST STATE, THE

USA, 2006 (MIFF 2007, Jaguar International Panorama)

Director: Ethan Hawke

HOTTEST STATE, THE

“The Hottest State shines an insider's light on artists looking for love - and for themselves - in the bohemian hotbed of New York City.” - Variety Actor turned writer-director Ethan Hawke's second undertaking behind the camera is a sensitive portrait of nascent narcissism and the first pangs of heartbreak. It tells the story of William, an aspiring actor, who meets and falls madly in love with Sara, a seductive singer-songwriter, just days before his 21st birthday. Swept up in the giddy flutter of young love, they almost marry - then Sara dumps him. The devastated William flees home to Texas in search of answers. Yearning for someone to love him back, William's journey forces him to come to terms with his own past.
