BLIND MOUNTAIN

China / Hong Kong, 2007 (MIFF 2007, Neighbourhood Watch)

Director: Yang Li

BLIND MOUNTAIN

A vivid and visually stunning film, Blind Mountain's pretty exterior encompasses a darker subject - the abduction and slave trafficking of women in rural China. Bai Xuemei is a young university graduate who, keen to help pay back the cost of her education to her father, takes a job selling medical supplies in rural areas. Travelling to a tiny village in a mountain-ringed valley with her employer, she awakens the next day to find herself abandoned and sold off to the son of one of the village families, a lecherous man named Huang Degui. Xuemei is trapped. Beaten every time she tries to escape, she resolves to bide her time until she can find someone in the village to help her flee the valley.
