The Ceiling

Czechoslovakia, 1962 (MIFF 1965, Czech Films)

Director: Vera Chytilov√°

This film is by one of Czechoslovakia's few women directors — part documentary, part acted. It is a skilful record of the development of a young university student who turns model, and gradually realises that her new career, with its intrigues and scepticism, can result in nothing but unrest and frustration.
