The ballet portrays a game of love and death, played according to the rules of the game of chess. it is finally won by the Black Queen, who captures the Red Knight and finally delivers the Red King to her warriors. We watch Ninette de Valois rehearsing the Royal Ballet before the performance of the complete ballet.
