Fred, a punk-coiffed eccentric, gatecrashes Helena's classy birthday party, stealing some compromising documents that belong to her influential husband Pursued by the husband's henchmen. Fred finds refuge in the subway where he befriends a series of subterranean personalities — among them a roller skating purse-snatcher, a flowerseller, and a muscleman who uses spare subway car parts for weight!ifting. Helena catches up with Fred, but he is more interested in managing a rock band comprised of itinerant musicians who live in the Metro network.
