African Riviera - Development Which Way?

Switzerland, 1974 (MIFF 1976)

Director: Ulrich Schweizer

The film depicts three traditional ways of life in West-Africa, each intimately linked to the demands of its physical environment (desert, savannah, and rain forest). It also concerns itself with the destructive impact of contact with the west (the city). In so doing, it questions widely-held beliefs about the values of our civilisation, the quality of life as we know it, and the aims of development.
