When her marriage to Neville Montague (John Gilbert) is stopped by his strict father, impetuous, aristocratic Diana Merrick (Greta Garbo) throws her bonnet over a few more windmills and marries a charming scoundrel (Johnny Mack Brown). After his arrest and suicide, Neville now married, returns to Diana, who, thinking of his wife (Dorothy Sebastian), drives her high-powered roadster into the tree where they first met.
