Darkness, Light, Darkness

Czechoslovakia, 1989 (MIFF 1990, Animation)

Director: Jan Svankmajer

The latest offering from the great Czech animator proves that the original is always the best.

"With this body, senses and existence, a being fills an empty room, but this existence is unsteady and temporary. We will immerse into darkness again, in the same way we have emerged from it."

Playfulness is the essence of Svankmajer's cinematographic work. However, this playfulness is not light-headed, but deeply interested in everything with which the fantasy endows life.
