Writing in the Sand

UK, 1991 (MIFF 1992, Documentary)

Director: Kitty Fitzgerald, Richard Grassick, Ellin Hare, Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen, Murray Martin, Pat McCarthy

The adventures of a family of city-dwellers who are spending a day's holiday on the windswept beaches of North-east England. Memories and fantasy mix with an atmosphere of freedom and bewilderment in the face of nature. But a sunny dream can suddenly turn into a nightmare. The sea lashes out furiously and a strange transformation takes place on the beach. A stunning visual essay made up entirely of still photos, from the Amber Collective, based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
