The small town of Bulle provides a backdrop to this poignant postcard from contemporary Switzerland. The silent gaze of Turkish immi­grants in limbo, fires lit in protest at the Swiss nuclear industry and controversy over issues of neutrality in isolation from the European Community, all betray an unrest quite at odds with the familiar image of ski-slopes, chocolate and cuckoo-clocks.
