FUCK OFF POLICE CAR

South Africa, 2009 (MIFF 2010, Backbeat)

Director: Bryan Little

“It's a band that changed South African music, and that's as big a legacy as you can get.”

Putting together an Afrikaans punk band started out as a kind of joke for the members of Fuck Off Police Car (Fokofpolisiekar in Afrikaans), but they unwittingly became the voice of a generation of disaffected left-wing white South Africans, left without identity after the shame of apartheid.

Following the five band members, their story, their music and the controversy that follows them wherever they go, Bryan Little's documentary tracks a group dogged by death threats, hated by those in power and - like all good punk bands - using the force of their music to challenge the accepted traditions and religious norms of their society.
