UK, 2010 (MIFF 2010, Night Shift)

Director: Gareth Edwards

“If John Cassavetes had ever made a sci-fi thriller, it probably would've looked and sounded a lot like this.” - Variety

Six years ago a NASA space probe crashed to earth with a shipload of alien stowaways on board - in the time since, a massive swath of the Mexico-US border has been fenced off, protecting the neighbouring territories from the giant, squid-like aliens that prowl the restricted area.

Photojournalist Andrew is keen to get pictures of the creatures, but when he's tasked with getting his boss's daughter back to the US, a one-day trip to the coast turns into a dangerous journey through the ‘infected zone'.

Not your average sci-fi monster movie, Monsters is instead a one-of-a-kind hybrid, a cross-genre road movie romance that just happens to travel into the heart of an alien-infested war zone.
