MOOD INDIGO

France, 2013 (MIFF 2013, International Panorama)

Director: Michel Gondry

Amélie meets Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind on a cloud car in Michel Gondry's latest hallucinatory cinematic delirium.

The ever-whimsical Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep) reunites Audrey Tautou and Romain Duris (The Spanish Apartment, MIFF 2003) for this adaptation of Boris Vian's uniquely wondrous cult novel Froth on the Daydream.

In a spectacularly quirky Paris where shoes act like puppies and pianos mix cocktails when played, idealist Colin falls deeply in love with Chloe, "a girl like a Duke Ellington tune". But their happily-ever-after ending is threatened when she is diagnosed with a rare illness: a water lily is growing in her lungs.

Featuring Gondry himself in an uncredited role as Doctor Mangemanche, this fantastical rom-com is a spellbinding visual assault and oddball date movie that will devastate, confuse and amuse in equal measures.
