Director: Matthew Miele

If fashion were a religion, Bergdorf Goodman would be its church.

Beginning life as a tailor shop in 1899, Bergdorf Goodman is now known as a couture mecca, so revered in the fashion world that it inspired a well-known New Yorker cartoon in which one woman confesses to another, "I want my ashes scattered over Bergdorf's."

Taking its name from this cartoon, Matthew Miele's documentary tracks the New York high-fashion department store from its humble origins to the temple of affluence it is today, occupying a whole city block on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue. A byword for luxury and with price tags to match, it has no trouble selling out of $6000 shoes and is a beacon to top designers and fashionistas the world over.

Featuring an eye-popping array of stars - from Joan Rivers, Nicole Richie and the Olsen twins to Vera Wang, Giorgio Armani and Isaac Mizrahi, who famously declared that clothes not at Bergdorf's are clothes without a future - Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's takes us into the inner sanctum of the ultimate fashion fantasy.

"Miele and his virtuoso cinematographer, Justin Bare, show how fashion can be aspiration, a model for dreaming the impossible." - Rolling Stone
