In Your Hands (Forbrydelser) Denmark

Wild rumours are circulating through a Danish womens' prison. When a violent, heroin-addicted convict is cured of her habit overnight, the other inmates speculate on the mysterious healing powers of new inmate, Kate. For her part, Kate denies any supernatural abilities, but evidence to the contrary is mounting. The new prison chaplain does her best to quell gossip but finds her own faith sorely tested. This latest Dogme film is Annette K. Olesen's tense and atmospheric follow-up to MIFF 2002 audience favourite Minor Mishaps.

'Explores notions of guilt, faith, superstition and conflicting loyalty with the same do-or-die intensity that has bedeviled several decades of tormented souls in Ingmar Bergman's movies. Constructed as an ingenious moral puzzle, wired to explode, early on the film establishes a mood of life-and-death struggles waged in an environment from which there is no escape. The performances, especially the charismatic, faintly ominous Kate, are as impressive as the film's framework, which ultimately closes in around the characters with a chilling finality.' -The New York Times
