Mekhong Full Moon Party (Sip Ha Kam Duen Sip Ed) ThailandEvery year on the 11th full moon, large crowds from far and wide gather on the banks of the Mekhong River in the remote Is an province of northeastern Thailand. They come to witness a mysterious phenomenon known as 'Naga's Fireballs'. Local folklore has it that the balls oflight are offerings for Buddha emitted by the river's sacred serpents, shooting up from the water and then disappearing soundlessly into the night sky. Set around this spectacular real life phenomenon, Mekhong Full Moon Party throws together a host of oddball characters in a swirl of playful escapades, sumptuous locations and buddhist ideals.

An entertaining debut film from Jira Maligool, the writer of international hit Iron Ladies, Mekhong Full Moon Party is anenchanting portrait of rural life caught at the cross roads of traditional folklore and modern technology.

'Humans need something to believe in. If we don't believe in anything our lives are like an empty piece of paper. The heart of the story is how these people with different ideals can live together, and how this reflects the peaceful way of solving conflicts in Thai society.' -Jira Maligool

'an impressive and controlled cinematic work' richly Altman-esque in characters, depth and ideas.'
