The Party's Over USA

Phillip Seymour Hoffman (Love Liza, MIFF 2003; Happiness) reports from the frontlines of the 'stolen' US election of 2000. With 'Dubya' fronting the voters again in November, this outstanding documentary is a timely reminder of the people and policies (sane and otherwise) driving the sole remaining global superpower. It includes incisive comments by Michael Moore, Michael Franti, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Eddie Vedder, Willie Nelson and Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland.

'Hoffman's perfect in his role as our tour guide. Many of the film's most priceless moments, in fact, come from the look of utter incredulity on his face as he reacts to a particularly horrific comment from some dim-witted politician. [It] provides an amazingly candid and insightful look at the contemporary American political process' [which is] precisely what makes this such a powerful, disturbing, and blackly comic documentary. The film unflinchingly shows just how badly democracy got raped in the Florida debacle. Screamingly relevant to America. With plenty to tick off or scare the bejeezus out of just about everyone.' -Film Threat
