“Suspenseful, funny, touching, sexy, and painlessly pertinent.” - Variety
A love story between two women, Looking for Cheyenne also explores the deeper questions about the extent to which society, or the choices of our loved ones, should dictate our lives.
Having been downsized from her journalist job and unwilling to rely on handouts from the government or charity from her partner, Cheyenne decides to leave Paris and live a simple existence in rural France. Her girlfriend, Sonia, a well-liked high- school teacher, is unwilling to follow Cheyenne into her new life and the separation takes its toll on both women. Sonia takes a new lover to try to fill the void in her life (the free-spirited anarchist Pierre), while Cheyenne battles her loneliness in her own way.
Beautifully realised, Valérie Minetto's debut feature draws on an impressive range of themes and cinematic devices (characters occasionally break the fourth wall to address the audience directly) to deftly weave an intimate, tender love story.
