“Strong enough to make believers out of non-metalheads, and inside enough to get the devil's-horns salute from the most diehard followers.”
- Variety
Headbanger-turned-anthropologist Sam Dunn acts as the on-screen guide for this testiment to an often-vilified subculture. Digging under the teased hair, screaming guitars and pyrotechnics, this documentary reveals the diverse terrain that is post-60s heavy metal.
Combining interviews with clips from the seminal Heavy Metal Parking Lot of 1986 - an hilarious short on heavy metal fandom - it reveals cult devotion that knows no boundaries. Those interviewed include a stampede of metal gods like Rush's Geddy Lee, Ronnie James Dio, Alice Cooper, Motörhead's Lemmy, Rob Zombie, Mötley Crüe's Vince Neil and Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson.
As stated by the Toronto International Film Festival, “(It's) proof that metal is about more than just the spectacle of evil.”
