“Blessed with a witty script and a talented ensemble of little-known character actors, this (is a) low-key but enormously charming pic” - Scott Foundas, Variety.

Odd couple Martin and Clarence scour the country looking for the next big musical act. The con is ‘song sharking', auditioning wannabes and getting them to cover the costs of recording - without delivering the goods. The only problem is Martin and Clarence don't know it's a scam, chasing their own dreams of becoming music producers. It's not long, however, until the duo cotton on to the devious ways of their exploitative boss. Filmmaker Craig Zobel's father unknowingly joined the same scam in the 70s. During filming, Zobel also resorted to ‘scamming' those who appear in his film by placing ‘Do You Want to Be a Star?' ads in local newspapers and secretly filming their musical auditions.
