“Beaufort could be seen as a new version of All Quiet on the Western Front.” - Screen International The oppressive reality of war comes to the fore in this gripping tale of Israel's evacuation of Beaufort Castle, a fortress on a mountain in Southern Lebanon. Rather than deliver a political commentary on the Middle East, Beaufort concentrates its incisive eye on the cumulative drudgery, fear and impotence of the soldiers' routines - the quotidian realities behind the tough exterior shell of the Israeli Defence Force. The all-male cast engages in a psychological wrestling match with themselves and the unseen enemy who loom exponentially over them as evacuation day nears. Despite the bravado of war, these men are ultimately emotional and vulnerable. Winner of the Silver Bear Award at this year's Berlin Film Festival.
