“By paying very careful attention to what people say, we're able to hear what affects not only the individual, but also the whole culture.” - filmmaker André Téchiné It's the summer of 1984 and Manu has left the quiet hum of the provinces to join his sister in Paris. These are the happy days when exploring sexual identity was still a fearless pleasure. After befriending a middle-aged gay doctor, Manu joins him and a married couple on a boat trip in the Mediterranean and, soon, their hedonistic happy days are interrupted by a disquieting wake-up call. The Witnesses explores the contrasts between sex and romance, friendship and companionship, at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. Nominated for the Golden Bear at this year's Berlin Film Festival.
