“…a riveting, visually arresting portrait of a soul in torment.” - Variety Anton Corbjin's biopic about the late Ian Curtis, frontman of Joy Division, is a fitting eulogy for one of post-punk's most troubled pin-up boys. Spanning Curtis' reclusive teenage years, his struggle with epilepsy, the loving but ill-fated relationship with wife Deborah (whose memoir this film is based on), his affair with Belgian lover Annik and the lead-up to his tragic suicide in 1980, this film reaches far beyond the music that became Curtis' legacy. Corbijn is one of rock music's most illustrious photographers and the indelible black and white cinematography recalls some of his original photographs of the band. Featuring astonishing performances by Sam Riley and Samantha Morton, Control scooped three awards at Directors Fortnight in Cannes this year.
