Gabita is pregnant and, rather than give birth, she asks Otilia to help organise an illegal termination. The girls have no choice but to enlist the services of a backyard operator, the drama unfolding under the glare of greenish neon light in the confines of a hotel room. Filmmaker Cristian Mungiu uses his interest in ‘urban legends' to tease audience expectations and create a drama that is more everyday than grand in scale.
