In 2006, former KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko died in a London hospital, the world's first known victim of poisoning by polonium-210, a highly radioactive substance. This unflinching documentary is a memorial to a man critical of the Russian regime. With testimonies from several witnesses deep inside Russia's secret service, Andrei Nekrasov investigates who Litvinenko was, the political conditions of the time, and how his own hunted him down. Chronicling the secret service's repertoire of terrorising, money laundering, murder and journalistic muzzling, Nekrasov's film is a sizzling indictment of the Russian regime and, in particular, of Vladimir Putin. “The Russian renegade comes across as no conspiracy theorist, nor even an enemy of patriotism, but a decent man spurred to defiance by the culture of corruption in which he found himself.” - Telegraph (UK)
