A memorial, homage and exploration of the late and great Derek Jarman, maverick of the British film scene.

Breaking down barriers in Thatcher's conformist England with his predominantly queer, left-of-centre and intensely personal films, Derek Jarman was the kind of filmmaker rare in today's money-focused industry. Often controversial, always innovative, Jarman's rebellious career was cut short by his death from an AIDS-related illness in 1994.

Featuring narration by Jarman's long time collaborator and muse Tilda Swinton, Derek is a personal rendering of a playful and surprising larger-than-life character - not only a celebrated filmmaker, but also a sorely missed friend.

"People often ask what I imagine Derek would be doing now, were he alive. Honestly, whatever would surprise the life out of everyone else, I suspect." - Tilda Swinton
