“What is there left to be against? All we want is to have fun.”

Faced with having to teach autocracy for project week to a class full of disaffected youth, a high-school teacher decides to turn his classroom into a microcosm of a dictatorship, employing drill-sergeant tactics, matching uniforms and the total elimination of individuality. Unexpectedly, the students embrace the idea and the project quickly, and dangerously, takes on a life of its own.

Based on actual events in a Californian high-school in 1967 and their retelling in Morton Rhue's novel of the same name, The Wave transposes the story of a class experiment gone wrong to modern-day Germany.

“An assured piece of filmmaking, The Wave captures the intoxicating power of conformity.” - Hollywood Reporter
