“I experience a period of frightening clarity in those moments when nature is so beautiful. I am no longer sure of myself, and the paintings appear as in a dream.” - Vincent Van Gogh

Making excellent use of the lush, gigantic IMAX format, filmmakers Francois Bertrand and Peter Knapp track the life and art of Vincent Van Gogh throughout his brief but prolific career, beginning in the Netherlands and advancing through Auvers-sur-Oise, Arles, Saint-Rémy and finally Paris.

Imparting their understanding and aesthetic analysis of the troubled painter's most celebrated works, the filmmakers venture into the south of France to compare Van Gogh's famous paintings with the real-life sun-drenched locations that inspired them.

A fascinating contemporary rediscovery of some of the most iconic paintings in art history.

All screenings take place at IMAX Melbourne Museum, located in the Carlton Gardens
