Gritty, black and white photography, contribute to the documentary feel of this contemporary drama. This is a tense
political tale about the problems being caused by the encroachment of private enterprise in Hungary.

ln an effort to gain economic independence, truck driver. Sandor Meszarosf(Karoly Eperjes) buys a truck to go into
business himself. ln doing so he and his wife, Jutka (Erika Ozsda) spend their life savings.

Sandor discovers corruption is endemic and must bribe officials to get work while doing much of the heavy loading and
unloading himself.

Jutka sets up as a seamstress to help make ends meet.
Finally Sandor's back gives way and he is unable to continue his work.

Images of poverty and decay, combined with an exploration of incipient capitalism and the need for adaptation, result in a powerful, pessimistic and emotionally involving film.
