What is twenty years to a human face or spirit? Faces encapsulates hundreds of years of human experience by recording a couple of moments, each separated by two decades from several peoples lives. Film emulsion and technology together with the exquisite portraiture of leading Melbourne photographer Sue Ford give no hint of the passing of time. In the luxury of silence her film carries us through the interstices between stills and moving pictures, releasing the animation that is seen gently working at flesh. Faces calls upon our powers of contemplation but leaves no time for complacency. Each portrait lasts just long enough for us to recognise which assumptions to leave behind and which questions to ask ourselves.
