“Unable to love each other, the English turn naturally to dogs.” - J.R. Ackerley

For curmudgeonly writer J.R. Ackerley, a man unable to connect emotionally with other people, the biggest love of his life had always been his typewriter. That was until he adopted Tulip, an Alsatian bitch that went on to become the misanthrope's best friend and constant companion for over fourteen years.

Based on the memoirs of J.R. Ackerley, this expressive and wryly humorous animation for adults features the voicing talents of Christopher Plummer, Lynn Redgrave and Isabella Rossellini. Unflinchingly comedic in its depiction of the less salubrious aspects of dog ownership, My Dog Tulip is a touching portrait of how unconditional love between canine and man can go both ways.
