This is a fully felt, morally alert, marvellously acted piece of work.” - New Yorker

Of all the war movies to come out of the USA in the last few years The Messenger is one of the most moving. Its power is based not on special effects or extended battle sequences, but on the strength of the two central performances.

Returned from duty after suffering an injury, Staff Sergeant Will Montgomery is assigned to the role of Casualty Notification Officer, charged with informing the next of kin of a soldier's death. He works alongside hardened veteran Captain Tony Stone (Woody Harrelson). The partnership is forced to face realities outside of standard issue military regulations.

Harrowing, insightful and surprisingly sensitive, The Messenger is a film that won't easily be forgotten.

Winner of the Silver Berlin Bear for Best Screenplay at the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival.
