“One of the finest accomplishments from the freewheeling new generation of Chilean filmmakers.” - Variety

United through a shared passion for the written word, college students Julio, an inveterate liar, and Emilia, a punky rebel, embark on an incandescent, unsustainable love affair, rendered on camera with forcefully sexy realism. Eight years later, with his literary ambitions slowly falling away, Julio struggles to write and rewrite the story of his affair with the now dead Emilia.

For his sophomore effort, acclaimed writer-director Cristián Jiménéz - among the most exciting young Latin American filmmakers - has delivered a finely tuned, biting adaptation of Alejandro Zambra's best-selling novella of the same name. Alternately comic and sad, Bonsai is a droll, poignant play on the consuming fervour of love and the often vexed interplay between experience, memory and retelling.

“A youthful film about sex, lies and literature that has the awkward charm of first love.” - Hollywood Reporter
