"Beautifully inscrutable, Diop's films are exceedingly personal, drawn from memory, experience, and chance encounters." – Cinema Scope

Forty years after the release of Touki Bouki, the director's niece – Mati Diop, star of Claire Denis's 35 Shots of Rum (MIFF 2009) and an accomplished filmmaker in her own right (Snow Canon, MIFF 2012) – returns to Senegal to find the actor who rode the film's iconic horned motorcycle. Thus begins a semi-fictionalised, at times dreamlike journey through memory – personal, cultural, and cinematic – and regret.

Winner of the Grand Prix of the International Competition, International Film Festival – Marseilles.

"Nothing is true and nothing is false in my film. The friction and two-way shuttling between reality and myth is [its] main subject." – director Mati Diop

Screens with Touki Bouki, Djibril Diop Mambéty's colourful, kinetic, FIPRESCI Prize-winning portrayal of Senegalese culture and universal longing, and a landmark in African cinema.
