"A joyous celebration of youth, friendship and rebellion." – Time Out London

It's 1982 and punk is dead, with Joy Division and The Human League now the most popular acts among Swedish high schoolers. Best friends Bobo and Klara may be outcasts for their lingering musical tastes, but it suits their brand of teenage agitation. Rallying against boredom more than a cause, they start their own band with guitarist Hedvig. What the trio lacks in talent, they boast in enthusiasm.

Reclaiming the exuberance of his early work, including Show Me Love (MIFF 1999), filmmaker Lukas Moodysson adapts a semi-autobiographical graphic novel by his wife, Coco, into an authentic and uplifting picture of teenage uncertainty. Part portrait of proto-Riot Grrrl feminism, part perceptive childhood comedy, We Are the Best! offers perfectly pitched mischievousness and nostalgia, as conveyed with chaotic energy.

"Delightful to watch, and frequently very funny." – SBS
