MIFF 2012 AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARDS ANNOUNCED | 28/08/2012

At the end of our 61st Melbourne International Film Festival, the audience polls were being tallied. Over 18 days, MIFF audiences had the choice of 439 sessions, 337 films, 229 features, 108 shorts, 48 Australian films, 30 World Premieres and 127 Australian premieres.

We're very proud to announce the French film The Intouchables directed by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano has taken out the MIFF audience award for best feature. MIFF audiences clearly have good taste, as the same film is the second most successful French film (in number of viewers) in the French box office of all time. Coming in at number two was The Hunt directed by Thomas Vinterberg and starring Mads Mikkelsen.

Turning our focus to documentaries, it was Searching for Sugar Man, the film about two South Africans who set out to discover what happened to their unlikely musical hero, the mysterious 1970s rock 'n' roller, Rodriguez that took out the number one spot. A very close second was Undefeated which looks at the single season in the life of a striving high school football team in impoverished North Memphis, Tenn.
