IN THE LAND OF WOLVES Unclassified 18+
In the remote Caucasus mountains, the inhabitants of a small rural Georgian community are captured with warmth and vibrancy by award-winning Australian filmmaker Grace McKenzie.
Over the changing seasons, daily life in the small Georgian village can have a timeless feel, although alongside their traditional ways of life the subjects of Grace McKenzie’s (Audrey of the Alps) documentary have the same aspirations and challenges as anybody else. Jimmy is a farmer, deaf and facing a painful divorce and custody battle; young Emzari hopes to become a tractor mechanic; and Frenchman Jean-Jacques is quietly revolutionising farming culture with his biodynamic approach.
The combination of its picturesque setting, beautiful natural light and engaging subjects makes In the Land of Wolves a serene and pleasurable immersion into another part of the world. A film of gentle gracefulness that gives the audience a fly-on-the-wall insight into a community of people that is familiar as it is foreign, it’s a rare treat.
