NOTHING LASTS FOREVER Unclassified 18+
"It stars Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd, it was the first film SNL's Lorne Michaels ever produced, and it aired for the first time in history in 2015… Nothing Lasts Forever's singular pleasures unfold in loopy dreamtime and could not be more wonderful to discover firsthand, even 31 years later." – Vice
Back in 1984, a Saturday Night Live writer named Tom Schiller convinced MGM to let him make a movie with some of his buddies from the show. The result was a trippy, black-and-white 1950s B-grade sci-fi parody called Nothing Lasts Forever and after a single diabolical test screening it was put on the shelf and never talked about again.
Except, that is, for a small community of devotees who passed around pirated VHS copies of the film for three decades, keeping the rumour of this curious chapter of comedic history bubbling under the surface. And now it's finally seeing the light of day.
The plot involves moon buses, the hobo Illuminati and intercontinental romance, but let's be honest: it's a long-lost paean to comedic weirdness featuring one of the best comic actors of the last 50 years given free reign to do what he does best. Of course you're going to see it.
Please note - this film screens as part of MIFF's Sci Fi Marathon. All tickets to the event are 18+
