THE STRANGE COLOR OF YOUR BODY'S TEARS Unclassified 18+
The mind-bending second feature from Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani takes the avant-garde style of Italian giallo and reworks it into a delicious genre cocktail, distilling the bloody poetry of its sources into pure sensory bliss.
Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani followed up Amer with an even more dazzling genre homage, incorporating stylistic elements from ’60s and ’70s pulp masters like Dario Argento, Sergio Martino and Mario Bava to create a visually and sonically immersive psychological thriller.
In a stunning, labyrinthine Art Nouveau apartment block, a businessman returns home to his find his wife has vanished and his door is locked from the inside. What follows defies conventional summary; suffice to say that our protagonist is plunged into a mysterious web of murder, hallucination and paranoia, shot with lurid colour and set to the sounds of Ennio Morricone, Alessandro Alessandroni, and Riz Ortolani.
"Very few filmmakers today are working with a radical new vocabulary, but Cattet and Forzani are using genre of the past to toss us, shouting, into the future." – Indiewire
