TIMECRIMES Unclassified 18+
"Ingeniously elaborate … Like the best sci-fi movies, Timecrimes has plenty to say about the here and now. That it says it using gloriously complicated time-travel logic is just the masterstroke." – The AV Club
Before he thrilled and bewildered cinema-goers with the ingeniously batty Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis vehicle Colossal, Spanish director Nacho Vigalondo was arguably best known for his ingeniously batty time-travel experiment now widely considered one of the best time-travel films of, well, all time(s).
Concerning itself with the temporal tribulations of hapless everyman Héctor (and Héctor, and Héctor) as he grapples with the crimes he commits as he attempts to prevent himself from committing said crimes, the film was made with virtually no budget, and consequently no special effects, instead relying entirely on Vigalondo's knotty, cerebrum-frying script and the deadpan ability of Karra Elejalde as the triplicate protagonist to pull it off. Winning the Best Picture and Silver Audience awards at the 2007 Fantastic Fest, Timecrimes has proved itself through time, and is well worth your time!
"A narrative puzzle that would have left Philip K. Dick grinning at the speculative mindplay and Samuel Beckett proud that his absurdist legacy persists ... plays upon the nerves as much as the intellect." – PopMatters
Please note - this film screens as part of MIFF's Sci Fi Marathon. All tickets to the event are 18+
