Hello MIFFsters,
So that's it, then. All over for another year. We feel a mix of relief and sadness, but are thrilled with what was undoubtedly our most successful festival yet. We'd like to thank everybody who contributed, from our wonderful staff and volunteers to our amazing audiences – you.
Without you, MIFF wouldn't exist. So give yourselves a pat on the back, stretch your legs and get some sunlight. You deserve it.
We'd also like to thank the Film Critics Circle of Australia – specifically Mike Walsh, Bernadette Burke and Dan Edwards – who judged the festival's TeleScope Award, which was announced by MIFF's Artistic Director Michelle Carey on Closing Night. The award went to Ben Rivers' Two Years at Sea (pictured above).
About the film, the Jury stated: "We have given the award to Two Years at Sea for its bold exploration of ways of going against the grain both in life and in cinema."
Congratulations, Ben.
Keep your eyes peeled, too, for the soon to be announced audience awards for Best Documentary and Best Fiction Feature.
Until next time, MIFFsters!
