January Members Screenings
Happy new year, MIFFsters! We hope that you are all suitably refreshed from the festive season and are ready to dive into some more members screening goodness!
First of all from our friends at Cinema Nova, Jonathan Page & Associates, and Bonsai Films, we have COMPLIANCE. A dark, unsettling tale about a phone call that convinces the staff at a fast food restaurant that one of their young employees is a thief, this chilling film will make you feel all the more queasy with the realisation that it is based on a true story.
Our second screening this month will get you excited if you're an awards seasons maven: our kind friends Classic Cinemas and Roadshow Films have SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK for us! From director David O. Russell, and starring Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro and our own Jacki Weaver kicking some Hollywood goals, we are talking SEAS OF POTENTIAL OSCARS, people!
Remember that you can only pick one of these members screenings to attend, so choose wisely, young padawan.
If you do have any problems with booking your ticket, please email membership@miff.com.au in order to secure your place.
Thanks as always to our lovely partner cinemas and distributors, Cinema Nova, Classic Cinemas, Jonathan Page & Associates, Bonsai Films, and Roadshow Films for allowing us to screen these films for you.
Wishing you a season of award show parties with nary a wardrobe malfunction,
Hayley Inch, Membership Coordinator

COMPLIANCE
On a particularly busy day at a suburban fast food restaurant, high-strung manager Sandra (Ann Dowd) receives a phone call from a police officer reporting that a young employee, Becky (Dreama Walker), has stolen money from a customer. Commencing an investigation, Sandra follows instructions from the policeman no matter how invasive they become. Director Craig Zobel (Great World of Sound) explores a riveting true story in which the line between legality and reason is blurred by the best of intentions. Delving into the complex psychology of real-life events, Zobel shows that truth really is stranger than fiction.

SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK
Life doesn’t always go according to plan…Pat Solitano (Bradley Cooper) has lost everything -- his house, his job, and his wife. He now finds himself living back with his mother (Jacki Weaver) and father (Robert DeNiro) after spending eight months in a state institution on a plea bargain. Pat is determined to rebuild his life, remain positive and reunite with his wife, despite the challenging circumstances of their separation. All Pat’s parents want is for him to get back on his feet - and to share their family’s obsession with the Philadelphia Eagles football team. When Pat meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a mysterious girl with problems of her own, things get complicated. Tiffany offers to help Pat reconnect with his wife, but only if he'll do something very important for her in return. As their deal plays out, an unexpected bond begins to form between them, and silver linings appear in both of their lives.
