Things are starting to get rather busy around here as this year's festival looms on the horizon. The first MIFF 2014 program announcements are just 11 short weeks away!

 

The final deadline for film submissions is 20 March, applications have just opened for the MIFF industry 37ºSouth Market, and the office is abuzz with film gossip and chatter, as the program for MIFF 2014 falls into place.

 

Our MIFF Members have already had their pick of brilliant preview film screenings, including Academy Award winning and nominated films DALLAS BUYERS CLUB and NEBRASKA, exclusive giveaways and offers (such as the bring-a-friend screning) this year, with more to come. Plus there all the regular year-round MIFF Members' benefits, like concession prices at a range of cinema partners around town. We embrace new MIFF Members into our community of Melbourne film enthusiasts – join us!

2014 FILM SUBMISSIONS

Final call! Late film submissions for MIFF 2014 close on Thursday 20 March. The good news is that you have until Thursday 3 April to provide materials, but submissions must be in by 20 March. AIM HIGH IN CREATION

Following its world premiere at MIFF 2013, MIFF Premiere Fund-supported AIM HIGH IN CREATION, a feature documentary from acclaimed director Anna Broinowski (FORBIDDEN LIE$) goes into release from March 27th at the Cinema Nova. THE TURNING

MIFF Premiere Fund-supported THE TURNING made its world premiere at MIFF 2013. Seventeen talented Australian directors from diverse artistic disciplines each create a chapter of the hauntingly beautiful novel by author Tim Winton. The linking and overlapping stories explore the extraordinary turning points in ordinary people’s lives in a stunning portrait of a small coastal community. As characters face second thoughts and regret, relationships irretrievably alter, resolves are made or broken, and lives change direction forever. NOAH

Russell Crowe stars as NOAH in the film inspired by the epic story of courage, sacrifice and hope. Directed by visionary filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (BLACK SWAN) NOAH film boasts a stellar cast including Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson and Ray Winstone, as Biblical Noah suffers visions of an apocalyptic deluge and takes measures to protect his family from the coming flood. ISABELLA ROSSELLINI

Screen icon Isabella Rossellini is coming to Australia to perform her wonderfully odd stage show GREEN PORNO, a one-woman comedy about mating in the natural world, inspired by a series of short environmental films. “I particularly love short films, I’ve always been interested in animal behaviour, and I certainly know a lot of people that are interested in sex.  So here you have the three elements that make the core concept of Green Porno – short stories, animals and sex.” GREEN PORNO plays on 26 March at Arts Centre Melbourne TO WIN: one of two Green Porno packs with a book and DVD of short films, tell us the name of a film starring Isabella Rossellini.

JEUNE & JOLIE

JEUNE & JOLIE (YOUNG & BEAUTIFUL) stars Marine Vacth as Isabelle, a 17 year-old who loses her virginity while on a summer holiday with her family. Told across four seasons, Isabelle begins working as a call girl, but when Isabelle's mother learns of the girl's secret life, conflict arises between everyone in the family. François Ozon (SWIMMING POOL, 5x2, 8 WOMEN) continues his masterful storytelling with a classically French coming of age story, nominated for the 2013 Palme d’Or.
