65 Seconds with David Stubbs

65 Seconds with David Stubbs

This year MIFF welcomes over 100 guests to the festival to participate in Q&As, panel discussions, special events and to showcase their films. For the 65h MIFF we sat down for 65 seconds with some of the faces you'll be seeing over the 18 days.

Your name: David Stubbs

Your film: Belief: The Possession of Janet Moses

Where are you from: Wellington, New Zealand

How long have you been making films: 30 years

Without using the title what words would you use to Google your film:
Wainuiomata exorcism, New Zealand Exorcism

What are three things you know about Australia?
Warmer than NZ, quite unique landscapes, Aboriginal people/culture.

65 years from now, how do you think the world will remember you?
As the guy who made Belief and also my next film, Daffodils.

If you weren't making films what would you be doing?
Probably working in another creative sector like arts or advertising. However I've been in film my whole life and don't know anything else.

What is a film that has stayed with you in a good way and a bad way?
In a good way, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is something I saw as a kid and I think it was a cinematic experience that changed me and made me want to make films. In a bad way, I don't know. I've seen a lot of bad films but I always get something out of them. I've never walked out of a film.

Belief: The Possession of Janet Moses is screening at MIFF 2016. David Stubbs is a guest of the festival.
