COVID Safety

In light of the current COVID situation in Melbourne, and with the safety of audiences and staff at the forefront of their thinking, the Board and Management of the Melbourne International Film Festival have taken the difficult decision to cancel the in-cinema component of this year’s festival, planned to be delivered from Thursday 12 to Sunday 22 August. Refunds will be issued to all patrons who have booked tickets for these sessions. Refunds will also be issued to all pass holders.

All tickets to in-cinema screenings in the CBD, the drive-in and the suburbs will be refunded in full. Refunds will be processed automatically. No action is required to receive your refund. We will be processing refunds as quickly as we can. Please allow 7–10 business days for the refund to be processed and the funds to appear in your bank account.

MIFF is committed to the national delivery of our streaming platform MIFF Play with an expanded program, alongside MIFF’s world-leading XR (extended reality) program, which is available to audiences, for free, globally.

We’ve added more than 30 new titles to our MIFF Play program so that you can continue to enjoy the festival from home.

Streaming films and sharing your favourite titles with your friends is a great way to stay engaged with the latest in cinema from around the world, and to support filmmakers and the festival.

Given the current operating environment in regional Victoria, MIFF’s regional cinema season will continue. Any required changes to the program line-up will be advised through local operators.

MIFF will be managed in accordance with the Victorian Government’s latest COVID-safe settings and restrictions. The MIFF website will be updated regularly. Should conditions affecting screenings change, we will update our website and be in touch with ticket holders for Melbourne screenings. Ticket holders for regional Victorian screenings should contact venues directly. All patrons are required to check in on arrival.

You must comply with any COVID-19 safety protocols or requirements communicated by MIFF (including signage at venues or floor line markings). This includes complying with:

  • hand hygiene requirements
  • physical distancing requirements (including physical spacing requirements while queuing)
  • mask and personal protective equipment directives
  • person limits for each space and area
  • person density/capacity requirements
  • any other safety requirement as directed by the Victorian Government

 You must not attend a MIFF event if you are:

  • feeling unwell
  • you are showing symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19)
  • you are awaiting a coronavirus (COVID-19) test result
  • you have otherwise been directed to self-isolate or quarantine.

You will be entitled to a refund or a waived exchange fee in these circumstances. Please contact boxoffice@miff.com.au as soon as is practical, we may not be able to provide a refund if you contact us after the session.

If an event is cancelled or significantly rescheduled due to coronavirus (COVID-19) or other intervening circumstances, exchanges and refunds for passholders and single ticket purchases will be processed as required by law. In the event of a cancellation due to intervening circumstances MIFF reserves the right to retain the ticketing transaction fee.

If an event requires a reduction in capacity to ensure a safe event or by government directive, refunds and exchanges will be processed in reverse order based on transaction date.
