What was the film or experience that made you want to write about the screen? Jeanne Dielman (1975), which was a required screening for a class, and my first time spending three days in three hours.
Why do you think film criticism matters in 2026? Amidst AI’s various flattenings, it’s more important than ever to respond to art through the textures of human experience.
Who is a critic that inspires you? My dad, who usually just nods or shakes his head profusely after a film. An interesting binary system, sincere and unambiguous.
In five words (or less), the future of cinema is: “Cinema is alive! It’s alive!”
