Former music journalist, Keven McAlester, portraits one of rock ‘n' roll's most tragic figures, Roger Kynard “Roky” Erickson of the infamous Thirteenth Floor Elevators in You're Gonna Miss Me.

Considered by many to have created psychedelic music, Roky's manic white blues-singer style was said to have significantly influenced Janis Joplin. His downfall came after a 1969 marijuana arrest, which saw him institutionalised for three years with the state's most violent mentally ill offenders. When he re-emerged, he was a changed man. Today, Roky sits in his apartment with four radios, three televisions, two amps, a radio scanner and a Casio electric piano… all playing at the same time… and loud! He also has a notarised document on the wall declaring himself to be an alien.

McAlester's investigations delve past Roky to his mother, Evelyn, who lives in an equally insular world. It's when his youngest brother returns home that things slowly unravel.
